Great Bear Distribution, Skelmersdale, Lancashire
Stuarts were contracted to design and construct a 46,560m² internal floor slab for Great Bear distribution in conjunction with Cadbury’s, of which approx. 29,000m² has been laid to the Superflat defined movement tolerance as defined in TR34 (2003), using traditional long strip construction techniques.
Designed by Messrs. George Hutchison Associates on behalf of Stuarts, a 215mm thick, steel fabric reinforced floor slab was installed in order to accommodate the high loadings to be imposed on stabilised ground.
In order to cast up to 1,300m² of superflat floor per day, co-ordination was required between two of Stuarts dedicated concreting teams from two separate offices to carefully plan the sequence of pours and methods of pouring.
Upon completion of the project, minimal tolerance grinding was required in order to achieve the tightest Superflat defined movement tolerance and the slab was adjudged to have a particularly high standard of finish.
